Long known for its crooked streets and colorful characters, Greenwich Village today is an attractive residential neighborhood, a college campus, and a lively center of night life with Off-Broadway theatres, legendary night clubs, popular bars, and intimate restaurants.

We can visit picturesque streets and elegant antique shops of the West Village, history-rich Washington Square, home of New York University, the clubs and coffee houses of Bleecker Street where the likes of Woddy Allen, James Taylor and Judy Collins got their start. We might also walk to the Meatpacking District that has been transformed into a chic fashion retail mecca by day and a hot club and restaurant scene by night.

I was born in Brooklyn, raised in the Bronx and have lived in Greenwich Village for the past thirty years. The real deal.

I started tour guiding in 1997. I thought it would be for a short time until I could get more work in show biz. So instead of performing in a club or on screen I'm doing it on a bus or in the streets. If you just want facts get a guidebook. If you want a humorous, entertaining tour, call me.

While in high school, he worked part-time as a messenger and learned the city streets and ins and outs of Manhattan’s neighborhoods. My signature tour is called HEY HO! LETS GO! Punk Rock on the Bowery; it is a sociological historical, walking tour / bar crawl that compares and contrasts the gangs of New York of the 1850s (the Bowery B'Hoys, Dead Rabbits, Plug Uglies, etc.) with the Punk Rockers of the 1970s (The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, etc.).

My critical underlying thesis is that the only thing separating these two extraordinarily disparate cultures is 125 years and electrcity. And since its a drinking tour, after a couple of pints, you believe me! (ba-dum-dum).

Other tours include Bohemians and Beats of Greenwich Village, Walk the Majestic Brooklyn Bridge, Ethnic NY - Growing Chinatown, Shrinking Little Italy and the Vanished Five Points, Central Park Vistas, Edible Ethnic Brooklyn Eats, and more.
Check out my family business website at www.levysuniqueny.com.

I am a native New Yorker who has lived most of my life in New York City. I have about 10 years experience as a hike leader for one of the major hiking clubs in the Northeast. I have led hikes in the woods of upstate New York as well as walking tours of New York City where we have visited Central Park, the Lower Manhattan Waterfront including Battery Park City, the West Village and the High Line, Riverside Park, Governors Island and the East Village.

The New York City walking tours and hikes that I provide are carefully designed so that the participant can see as much of an area as possible yet still get some exercise. It is my hope that on each and every NYC walking tour you will experience something that will give you a sense of wonder and excitement -and you'll have fun.

These NYC walking tours and NYC hiking tours are only given privately and are available on request to individuals or groups. I can also accommodate school groups and summer camps. New York City walking tours are available in any season on weekdays and some weekends as well as evening hours. My New York City walking tours are “more walk and less talk” and are designed primarily for those who are in reasonably good shape. We cover a lot of ground at a reasonably steady pace and the goal is to see as much of a specific area in New York City as possible. A NYC walking tour or hike usually covers 2-3 miles but can be increased to 7 miles for those who are more ambitious. The tours last between 2-4 hours but there will also be ample time to “smell the roses”. (I’m also good at finding restrooms along the way!) Of course, any walking tour and hike that is given can be modified to fit the needs and schedule of the participants. Most importantly, my NYC walking tours and hikes are designed to be fun.

I am a New York City licensed tour guide who enjoys doing personalized sightseeing tours. I have escorted small families, large corporate groups, and everything in between. As a citizen of this great City for the past 25 years, my expertise includes New York’s many "out of the way" places which give New York its special cachet and flavor. My specialty is tailoring these tours to the interests of the specific group and their varied tastes, including tours with an emphasis on history, art and architecture.

I conduct tours to New York’s environs. My knowledge of the Hudson River Valley, Lake Waramaug, Litchfield Area in Connecticut, Dorset, Manchester Area in Vermont, Sands Point, Sea Cliff on the North Shore of Long Island and the Hamptons and Shelter Island on the Eastern End of Long Island is plentiful and have made many tourists’ holiday more fulfilling. These excursions out of New York, with their rich history and local color, take visitors to places not seen by most tourists. In addition, I can arrange special tours of the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

Susan Volchok is a native New Yorker whose work as a licensed NYC guide is the ultimate expression of her lifelong delight in showing off her city. She especially loves sharing her deep affection for it with newcomers, who are always surprised at how easy it is to start feeling at home here and start falling in love with this wonderful town.

City guiding is also a natural expansion on her career as an urban fiction writer and essayist: she has published widely in journals and anthologies, as well as in mainstream magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times. Combining broad-ranging knowledge and an insider’s comfortable familiarity with an insatiable curiosity about New York’s lesser known attractions, Susan especially enjoys leading visitors off the obvious, beaten paths—up into Riverside and Morningside Parks, for example, and beyond the basics of iconic Central Park. Yet she confesses she is one of the few longtime guides who still gets a thrill taking people to the top of the Empire State Building and watching their reactions to that first sweeping view of Manhattan and more.

When I was born, my grandparents bought a house in Bayside, Queens, and no matter where I roamed, New York was always home for me. I spent my college years and young adulthood here before moving out to raise my family, only to rush back when the job was done. I have lived all over the US and in London, and I have traveled extensively; no one understands New York's magnetism better than I. Needless to say, I am more than delighted for any opportunity to share my fascination with its intoxicating essence with neophytes and seasoned New Yorkers alike. My book, co-authored with Felicia Brings, A View from the Bus: A Tour Guide Takes Manhattan, is available online at www.nycbustourbook.com.

In the theatre every night is “opening night,” the same is true of Tour Guiding, every day must be exciting and fresh for you our guests. We are indeed bringing each place to life and creating the magic for you in the Greatest City in the World. My experience includes leading tours in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions as well as having my NYC and DC guide licenses. In addition to NYC, I know Boston, Philadelphia and DC well. For over 20 years I hired, managed and trained a seasonal staff of 90 adults and ran a performing arts summer camp for over 200 children. In the service industry I have extensive knowledge of event/meeting/wedding planning at various venues including at a Relais Chateau property. As a director/choreographer of theatrical productions, I have produced over 100 musicals and plays with seniors as well as students. My past experiences allow me to bring new places to life for you, my guests, and give you a memorable “opening night” every day of your trip.

I give all sorts of tours but especially enjoy giving tours of the cultural aspects of the city...from highlight tours of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to literary tours of Greenwich Village and theater tours of Times Square.

Besides giving tours of New York City for the last twelve years, I've also been working as a writer. My first novel, Suspension, was published by HarperCollins in 2006, under my pen name, Robert Westfield. It has received two literary awards and is currently being translated into Italian.

I am also the creator of "Little Bytes of the Big Apple," video tours of New York which you can view on my Web site:
